Ah, February: the time of year when you’ve been consistently working your butt off to reach your New Years resolutions—whether it be getting to the gym more often, eating better, saving money, or any other goal you’ve been working for. The time of year when were trying to get ourselves back to normal from the holiday chaos and find consistency in our daily routines, all while plugging along through the winter blues. I’m not sure about you, but it’s this time of year when I can begin to feel drained from the lack of sunshine and colder weather. It’s times like these when it’s really important to focus on self-care and wellness to keep a balanced life.

     Stress management is something that gets pushed aside too much when focusing on our health and wellbeing. With how much effort we put into improving our fitness and nutrition, it is crucial to remember how our important our psychological health is in regards to our overall health. Its essential we take the time do things for ourselves in order to relieve stress, better our sleep, calm the mind, and reward ourselves for our good doings. Below are some self-care methods to consider doing in the next week or so for yourself:

 

Foam Rolling: A form of self-myofascial release, foam rolling can relieve soreness, improve flexibility, and realign our fascial network to restore balance to our bodies. Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds all of our muscles and organs, and can get bound down with stress and exercise. Foam rolling can restore fascia to its correct origin as well as relax tight muscles for relief of aches and pains.

 

Spa Treatments: Our skin can become dry and itchy in the winter months, so it’s important to keep it hydrated and healthy the best as possible during this time. Not only can spa treatments such as massage, manicures/pedicures, or facials do this, these treatments can also be relaxing and rejuvenating for our minds! Take the time to make an appointment to treat yourself to whatever your liking in the spa world—for your skin and your soul!

 

Unplug: Technology can be a great resource, but also a great source of stress. With it so easily accessible at our fingertips, our worlds seem revolve around it, and I truly believe taking a break from it is essential to a calm and clear mind. Whether it be shutting off your TV, turning off your phone, or putting down your iPad, take the time to pick up a book, meditate, sip some tea, or catch up on some sleep; you deserve it.

 

Keep up the hard work on your goals, but don’t forget to take the time to pause, breathe, and recharge this winter season!
